How does the economy affect us spiritually?

The news over the last couple of months has focused on the downturn in our economy.  Unemployment is rising and stocks are falling.  Banks are getting bailed out, while other businesses are filing for bankruptcy.  How is this affecting our country spiritually?  Are more people having to rely on God to take care of their finances?  Or do people just blame God for losing their job or retirement fund?  Is the economy affecting us spiritually at all?

  1. We should always trust completely in God. That means trusting Him with our money too. When we tithe and give offerings above the tithe, God does exactly what He says He will in Malachi 3:10, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”

We need to use wisdom with our money. Don’t go into consumer debt. If you can’t afford something, don’t buy it. If you buy a house, which I believe is a great investment, be sure to get a fixed interest rate on your loan.

Trust God and use wisdom. That’s a great combination to prosper during any kind of economy.

  2. Ken, I was planning on posting something along these lines to follow up this post. I think you covered all the bases. Thanks.
